 Mata Ortiz (Casas Grandes) Pottery from Mexico

El Paso Rugs is fortunate to be located only a few hours from the world renowned village Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico, and we are able to hand pick our selection of fine Mata Ortiz and Casas Grandes pottery before it hits the general public and pottery dealers here in the United States.

Based on designs found in the nearby Aztec ruins of Paquime, these One-of-a-Kind pieces are all hand crafted using the traditional "pinch-and-coil" method of pottery making that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Popularized by the famous potter, Juan Quezada, there are now more than 300 families in the village of Mata Ortiz that create a range of pottery from the primitive style Casas Grandes to the Fine Mata Ortiz style of pottery that is highly prized by collectors around the world.
